Week 2 of my Wellness Journey
I didn’t scare you off yet? Good! Let’s get started.
Morning Routine
My second week testing out this new routine was even better than the first. I set my alarm for 7:50 AM everyday and continued challenging myself with these miserable HIIT workouts (yes I still hate them after a week and half of doing it almost everyday). I decided it was time to switch it up, I’ve always wanted to see if I liked Yoga so I figured now it was time to give it a try.
Down for Down Dog
I started using an App called Down Dog. Add this to the list of great decisions I have made for myself. Shoutout to my friend Hila for suggesting this to me -, it’s affordable and definitely worth it. This app took away all of the “what should I do thinking?”. For Yoga, all I needed to choose was my level (beginner), voice (some calming female Australian), and if I wanted any boosters(flexibility, aerobic). Oh, and they have a great Alternative Beats playlist to go along with it. Once I did this, a set yoga class was recommended for me.
Yoga to me has always seemed to be a special workout for, lack of better word, zen people. I always thought that there’s no way that yoga is a real workout. I was the biggest judge of it to the point that at 26 I’m doing it for the first time. As you can imagine, I am developing a trend for breaking my own stigmas because very quickly I understood I was wrong.
Now, in the morning I pull out my 3 year old yoga mat that, while rather nasty, gets the job done! I have learned all too quick that I am probably the least flexible person in the world, no joke — I can barely touch my toes. But each time I would do my 25 minute yoga class I was fully able to shut my mind off. Which for me is the most important part because unlike not being able to touch my toes, this is something I already know I’m not very good at. I focused on my breathing and finally felt that my mind was clear, I wasn’t thinking about work, relationships, family, friends, nothing. It was, and continues to be, a freeing experience.
This was the real breakthrough week for me, I was passionately doing 25 minutes of yoga at least 3 days, and knew there was no way I would be going back to those HIIT classes.
What I’m Reading
Now at this point, I began reading a new book about Habits, The Power of Habits. It was a bit too scientific for me but it was really interesting to see that there really is a cycle in how habits are created, and for me, it is really important to recognize that.
I have officially started a cycle each morning where I push myself hard to work out, get myself to write, and reward myself with a book. This started my path to actually make my 3-step morning routine into a habit.
After such an exciting week, I’m really looking forward to jumping back in next week! See you then!
